SS: How did you get started on your yoga journey?
I was living in NYC and I was a complete stress case! I was told that I needed to try yoga as a way of calming down. (Well, actually they said, you need to smoke some weed or do some yoga!) I tried yoga and I loved it. I’ve always loved being active, so I would go to the gym and I used to dance. But yoga brought it all together in a way that was non-competitive, immersive, and delicious. As it does for many of us, yoga spoke to my body, mind and spirit.
SS: how do you use yoga to overcome challenges?
Breathing, breathing, breathing. My yoga practice is a safe place to slow down and feel. I tend to be in my head a lot (and I’m prone to anxiety), so yoga helps me anchor into my physical body and stay in reality. As I say, I have 20,000 hamsters running in my brain. This helps get the hamsters off the hamster wheel.
SS; what has yoga taught you about yourself and life?
So much. Here are some highlights:
– Don’t believe everything you think.
– Allow for I don’t know.
– Life is about the in-between spaces.
– Our fundamental nature is loving.
– Feeling is safe.
– #smalldailyacts create the fabric of the universe.
